Tips For First Time Parents
Having your first child can be a confusing time. While you are excited and happy, you may also be terrified and worried about parenthood. Contrary to most parents’ wishes, there is no manual for babies. It is trial and error . Lots of people will try and scare you of parenthood by making you worry about everything, like the dangers of pushing your kid in a Folding cart at the store. Well while the dangers of a wheeled cart linger in your mind, just keep in mind that as long as you baby is alive, healthy, and happy that you are doing well.
Babies are good at letting you know when you are doing something that they do not like. Crying is their favorite alarm system, and they have no problem sounding it .Here is some minor advice to help you with the experience.
First of all, if you baby does not do what your mother or friends say their baby did, do not worry. Like snowflakes, no two babies are the same; each will have its own habits. Talk to a doctor if you think something is out of the ordinary and they will let you know. There will always be an odd baby who doesn’t sleep as much or doesn’t eat like other kids. Some babies develop slower while other will develop very quickly. Just because your baby may be learning things at a slower pace does not automatically mean they are not smart. There is a point where slow development may be a warning sign, but just keep in touch with your doctor to clarify.
Second, the breast feeding versus formula debate is one that many mothers are concerned about. The best thing to do here is to make that decision amoung yourselves or involve your doctor. Some will tell you that formula raised children are not as academically successful as the latter, but that is debatable. If you have a preference, just stick with it. Do it the way you feel like you should. It is your choice because it is your body and your child. There will always be parents who think they can tell you what to do, but they really can’t.
Last but not least; try to be an overbearing parent. Being an over protective parent will only harm your child. One of the best ways for children to learn is through experience. Little bumps on the head won’t kill them; it just teaches them what not to do. I mean obviously you should worry about choking hazards and things, but there is a limit. The Marie Antoinette of parenting would tell you to “let them eat dirt.” Eating a little dirt is great for kids. If you are too careful you will only make them super susceptible to germs.
